New TV and Film Puppet Festival for 2018
Andy Rolfe and Wycombe Sound, in partnership with the British Puppet and Model Theatre Guild, are staging a Film and TV Puppet Festival on 27th and 28th October. This event has been a lifelong goal of Andy’s, and he is proud to announce the first two of his special guests, Ronnie Le Drew who is best known to many people as the voice and puppeteer behind Zippy from Rainbow, and Mary Turner who was chief puppeteer on Gerry Andersons iconic TV Puppet series such as Four Feather Falls and Thunderbirds. Both Ronnie and Mary will be giving interviews and an insight to their fabulous careers working with puppets.
Mary, who has been making and performing with puppets since 1958, was at the forefront of developing some of the puppet technology we see today. Mary was also responsible for sculpting some our favourite TV puppets such as Captain Scarlet and not forgetting Lady Penelope. A lot of Mary’s puppeteering involved the use of long strings or wires, from a bridge over the stage or set. The wires themselves could be up to eight feet in length, and a lot of skill was needed to produce the desired effect from the puppet on the other end.
Ronnie, who is a Canadian puppeteer born in Toronto, has spent many years both as a puppeteer and a teacher at The Little Angel Theatre in London. A few of Ronnie’s TV credits include working with Harry Corbett in The Sooty Show and of course with Zippy on Rainbow. Ronnie has also been involved with the Film industry in the making of Labyrinth, Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island. Ronnie is also the current President of The British Puppet and Model Theatre Guild.
Andy, who is a founder member of the Supermarionation Recreations Team, will be giving live demonstrations of how they created and filmed the Anderson TV shows. Extensive model displays from the shows and lots of puppet demonstrations will be taking place during this 2 day spectacular event on October 27th and 28th 2018. Further information will be made available as additional attractions are confirmed. Alternatively you can follow us on Facebook at Film and TV Puppet Festival.
